In the week leading in to your shoot
Skin Care
Skin care is essential for looking and feeling your best in front of the camera! A little effort to nourish your skin, will add to your photo glow.
In the days leading up to your photos, taking good care of your skin is a few easy simple steps:
• Drinking plenty of water to hydrate
• Follow the moisturising and skin care routine that works for your skin
• Moisturise your lips
• Get enough sleep
• Eat a well-balanced diet.
Following these tips can help you look camera ready and make you feel confident in front of the lens.
Outfits: Look the part
Choosing the right clothes to reflect your brand is an important part of the process. Your attire should showcase who you are and what you do without being too distracting. Colour blocks can photograph better than patterns. It’s not just about having a great outfit, it’s also about selecting pieces that will look best on camera. For ideas to reflect your brand, look to Pinterest of inspiration. The perfect outfit may be in your wardrobe or it might be time to hit the shops.
Choose an outfit that flatters you in both the colour and cut. It should also compliment your brand colours. Ensure all your outfits are clean and pressed and lint free. I work with my clients to help them select an outfit that they feel and look great in.
Accessories can really pull an outfit together. Make sure your accessories tell a story. You may not want to wear your smart watch. Try to stick with one accent piece.
Nails should be tidy. If you are wearing nail polish make sure it isn’t chipped.
Props & location: Enhance your story
When it comes to creating engaging marketing photos, the details help. Think of who your client is and what you’d like to know and more importantly feel about your brand. Props, location or studio photography are options to consider. If you have a clinic, shop or office space, you may want a location shoot. Are there certain tools you use that are integral to your job? Or do you want fresh imagery on a plan background that you can easily overlay text on.
Hair & Makeup: Enhance the Look
Hair and makeup can make all the difference. With the help of a hair and makeup artist, you can take your look to the next level and be camera ready for your headshot or branding shoot.
There are levels of makeup from natural to full glam. What’s right for you depends on how much makeup you usually wear and what you are comfortable with along with what reflects your brand. If you have any allergies to products, be sure to mention that to your hair and makeup artist.
• Choose a correctly matched foundation for your skin
• Avoid shimmer, matte makeup photographs better.
The day before
Check your outfits are all clean and ironed. Shoes are polished. Accessories are packed.
